CROSSROADS FAQ:

Q) What are some of the activities mentors can provide for their assigned child?

A) Many times, CROSSROADS mentors are the only visitors that these children have while they are placed in the probation facilities. Mentors are allowed to play cards, games, read and just be a listening ear for their assigned youth.  The youth are required to stay on the campus of the facility they are living at and cannot leave with a volunteer for any reason.

Q) What are the requirements to become a mentor with CROSSROADS?

          A) 21 years of age, complete application packet and provide copies of your driver's license and auto insurance,

submit  to a background check and fingerprinting process and attend a training and orientation class

Q) How long does it take to process my application?

A) Approximately 2-4 weeks.  This largely depends on how quickly you can schedule a time to be fingerprinted.

Q) Where do volunteers perform their mentoring duties?

A) The areas for volunteering include:

1. Burnett-Bayland Reception Center -  6500A Chimney Rock  (59/Gulfton area)

2. Detention Center - 1200 Congress (Downtown)

3. Krause Center - 5638 Medical Center Drive (I-10 and Pin Oak in Katy)

4. Harris County Leadership Academy - 9120 Katy Hockley Road (between I-10 and 290)

5. Harris County Youth Village - 210 J.W. Mills Dr. (Seabrook area)
